The latest match up with Light Blues yielded seven goals and a penalty save in a great team performance. It seems that last weeks victory, won by out passing the opposition has reminded the Maroons how to play their way.
Throughout the game the boys played for each other running into space, passing unselfishly and it paid dividends.
Jack D opened the scoring after some great passing in midfield and soon after Riley drove home a second. Spencer, full of running, then latched onto a quality cross from Riley and just before half-time claimed a brace. William did a good job in goal and on one occasion forced a corner directly from his kick.
Throughout the half Jack B and Josh held a disinclined back line and snuffed out any Light Blue threat.
In the second half Spencer continued to boss the midfield alongside William who fulfilled the holding role with confidence. Dorrell dropped into defence with Riley both winning the ball with confidence and driving forward. The first goal of the second half was a great strike from Josh from outside the box his second was equally impressive if a little closer in but didn't come before the two Jacks had made their mark, first Jack B forcing the ball over the line from close range and the Jack D saving impressively from open play then again from a penalty.
It's always hard to pick a Man of the Match from a team performance like that, but Spencer's running, goals and superbly judged through balls tipped the balance. Well played.

7 Superstars.
In the third of what could be six clashes with Royal Blues this season the Maroons drew level in a stunning performance from front to back.
The first time they met Maroons were narrowly defeated, the second was drawn with a goal in the dying seconds, today they went one better.
The game started evenly with two well matched sides feeling each other out until a clearance/shot from Riley from around the half way line crept in at the back post.
It was the spur the Maroons needed and as they grew in confidence they began knocking the ball around with Dorrell and Spencer running tirelessly while Jack B, Riley and Josh held a disciplined back line. It was in front of this support that William had his best game for Maroons to date, and he scored the goal that changed the game. Receiving the ball just outside the box on the left he dropped his shoulder, beat his man and rifled the ball low and hard into the net.
Maroons soon scored a third as a fantastic ball across the box was met by the on rushing Dorrell who converted to bring him level with Jack B as joint second scorer, behind Josh whose disciplined display legislated against him adding to his personal tally.
Maroons then conceded a penalty and Jack D was given no chance. This was the only time he was beaten in his stint in goal in which he was tested as much as any Maroons keeper has been this season. He made some great saves including a noteable dive to his left turning a rasping drive behind for a corner.
At 3-1 Royal Blues saw a way back and half way through the second half they claimed a well deserved goal. It was backs to the wall for the last 10 minutes with a great deal of credit going to Josh and Jack B for their disinclined and combativedisplay and Spencer for his running, determination and tackling back. Riley also deserves a mention for being prepared to take a stint in goal.
While the first half belonged to the attacking players the second belonged to the defence, William was awarded man of the match for a confident display and a game changing goal. All seven Maroon stars deserved a medal today for their individual contributions to a fantastic team performance. COYMs.

NICE ONE WARNER.
Thanks to Jack B's grandpa for pointing out an error in last weeks match report. I described a 5-0 victory over Reds and six goals. Cheers Warner, amendment made.
A GAME OF TWO HALVES
It was a slow start again for Maroons against a well organised Yellows side who took the lead with one of the goals of the little league season so far. The strike from outside the box left Jack B with no chance in goal as it flew into the top corner.
Maroons seemed stunned by this set back and despite some individual attempts on goal, it wasn't until the last minute of the half that an excellent turn and snap shot from Spencer brought them level.
At half time Paul and Chris reminded the team what makes them so good, playing for each other and passing the ball. In the second half they responded with a far more impressive display. Jack B gave Maroons the lead early in the half after some quick interplay saw the ball come across the box allowing him to side foot into an empty net.
The best team goal of the day doubled the advantage with Riley knocking the ball out to Jack B on the wing who crossed to Josh who beat his man and pulled it back to Jack B now on the edge of the box who fed Dorrell for the first.
From the restart Maroons won possession and forced the ball into the box for Josh scored from an acute angle. In this more comfortable position Maroons started to knock it around with confidence, with Dorrell scoring two more back to back to gain a second half hat-trick and man of the match. Jack B made it seven late on with a drive from just inside the box.
With another fixture against Royal Blues coming up Maroons will need to remember what made the difference between their first and second half performance. TEAMWORK AND PASSING!

CHRISTMAS COBWEBS BLOWN AWAY
It took a while to get going but by the end of the game Riley had claimed a hat-trick and an of the match as the Maroons won 6-0.
In the first half it took a while for the game to get going, with the Maroons strugging to cope with the Red's tactic of leaving a striker in their half, taking advantage of the lack of an offside rule in 7-a-side football. When the deadlock was broken it was a first for of the new year for Riley. In the second half it started to click as the Maroons got back to the slick passing of last year. First Josh doubled the advantage with a splendid half volley from a very tight angle before Riley got his second.
Jack B slid on to a Riley pass to grab the forth, Riley scored the fifth and his third with a rasping drive before Dorrell scored a superb individual goal cutting inside to curl one in from outside the box. William deserves a mention for a very strong defensive performance in the second half, but the man of the match was definitely Riley with the first hat-trick of the new season.
